British
The British military was the best in the world during the time of the American Revolution. It had one of the strongest army and navy forces anyone had ever seen. Their soldiers were well equipped, well disciplined, well paid, well fed and obeyed orders. The British had conquered other nations, such as France and Spain. At first, the odds were against the colonist with no hopes of them winning a war against the British military powerhouse.
The war was expensive for the British with many people wondering why the war was necessary with the colonies. The British had the financial strength to raise money where the Colonists did not have the money to even pay the soldiers they had at times. Because the British had the money, they would sometimes use it to hire German mercenaries to fight against the Americas.
