German
The German army was called Hessians and they were hired to fight for the British against the Colonists. It was not uncommon for the British to hire a foreign army. The majority of the Hessians landed in New York in 1776 and they would see action from the Canada all the way down to Florida. Hessians fought in almost every major battle during the Revolutionary War. They had pushed George Washington to the shores of the Delaware and would often destroy homes throughout the east coast. The German Colonel Rall and 918 Hessians lost the battle at Trenton and surrendered. Then later in the war, hundreds more Hessians surrendered at Saratoga under the command of Fridrich Adolf Riedesel. These were major defeats for the British during the war. Without these German Hessians, who terrorize and scared most of the colonists, the Revolution would have been dramatically different.
